Gram and Lois
Hi. So the weekend is almost over..:( the weather was wonderful. Yesterday we had dinner at my parents, my Gram's sister is here from Florida. Today Jed went to his Dad's for a few hours and Danny and I rode. (wonderful..soooo nice, we even rode in Maryland for about 20 mins with no helmets before I caught up with Dan and told him where we were!) Jed is feeling the effects of the steroids. He has a lot of anxiety, he is sad and cries easily and is very tired. He also likes to argue...very picky about details and insistent on correcting anything that he perceives as incorrect! Right now he is reading his Thomas Edison book for school. He is spending more time worrying about the fact that he can't get it read quickly enough than he is actually reading. Poor guy. He had fun seeing his brother and sister but they had friends over he wasn't too thrilled with! We just got back from dinner, Gram's sister Lois took us out to eat. It was great to see her and very good for both of them to be together. Lois is 82 or 83 and gram is 85, they are such glamour girls! They were the talk of the town when they would go out to the USO dances! Just to illustrate how picky they are about their looks, the other night Lois was ready to step into the shower and the fire alarm in Gram's building went off. They both put on make-up before they left the apartment!!! So funny.

Anyway Jed is now resting and reading. I am trying to work up to a little treadmill work...after all I have eaten in the last 2 days I should walk until tomorrow!

Today is Uncle Barry's Birthday....Happy Birthday Bar....he is married to the kids Aunt Mindy.

Tomorrow...I don't think we have anything planned for except school at 4pm. I have to call and schedule a "date day" for Danny and I....date day consists of separate psychologist's appointments and then out for subs!!!! Yup we lead a rockin' exciting life!!!!! but we are mentally stable....I guess that's up for debate!

Tuesday we just have blood counts but Jed is stressing about it already. He made it through his 1st week without Holly but all of a sudden today he started to cry and said " I just don't think I can do it again"...I told him..well dude, she just gave birth on Thursday so you are going to have to suck it up and deal. He will be fine but the steroids make him worry about everything. This morning was his last dose so hopefully they will be out of his system by the end of the week. i think that is it. Danny just finished mowing the lawn....looks wonderful. I have to go water the veggie then I guess it's to the treadmill for me...uugghh

Love Jed and Kristin
Hi, just a quick note for right now...
HOLLY, I know your busy just having a baby on Thursday and all but HEY is it a girl or a boy????? WE NEED TO KNOW!!!!!! Hope all is well, we are thinking of you...we want pics!

Hey, Jed is feeling better. He had school yesterday eve and today he went with Savannah to see pappaw for his birthday. Their Aunt Mindy came down so they got to see her too. Today we also met Haley, she is the classmate of Jed's that is celebrating her birthday by having a fundraiser for the Four Diamonds Fund. All the money she raises will go to the Fund in honor of Jed. WOW! Very nice child, her mother and sister, Ashlyn, are very nice also. The party is June 5th between 5:30 and 8:30 at Windsor Wonderland. Anyone that can stop by I would really appreciate it. I want her to know that Jed's friends and family are appreciative of what she is doing. She has raised over $1500.00. That is amazing ...she is only in the 5th grade! So if you have a spare minute PLEASE stop by Windsor Wonderland on June 5th between 5:30 and 8:30.
Tomorrow Gram's sister Lois will be here from Florida. I have been cleaning all day and it looks like I did nothing! I made the HUGE mistake of looking behind the fridge and stove this morning.....there was enough dog hair back there to make a litter of puppies.....yuck. So the kitchen is pretty clean but that's all I got finished!
That's all for now. Jed is resting, his face is kinda puffy from the steroids and he is being a tad intense but so far it is tolerable!

Hi again. Just wanted to let you know that around 4pm Jed wandered down stairs in search of food. When he found out that there was a little carnival at the high school and they would have funnel cake he was on a mission! So we went to the carnival, listened to Savannah and Karli sing and Jed ate a funnel cake, fries and a blue sno cone. I asked him how his head felt, he said it still hurt but he weighed the headache and the funnel cake and the cake won!. He ate a sloppy joe and more fries when we got home. Steroids must be kicking in. So anyway the point of this was to say that Jed is feeling better and starting to eat.
Gotta go,
Love Jed and Kristin

Danny and the Mac!

Jed, Livi-Mac and Dan

hey. Jed is suffering from a lovely spinal headache. He has only really had one severe one of these before, a few minor ones but this one seems to be on the more severe side. He starts to feel ok and gets up to do stuff and then of course as soon as he is not flat on his back the headache returns with a vengeance. Hopefully it will go away today. Savannah brought him some coke last night and that supposedly helps...I guess we just wait and see. He did well yesterday considering that "his" Holly was not there! Joanne took care of him. As of yesterday he has 20 weeks of chemo left...I might have mentioned that before. He also should only have 1 more spinal tap! I am not telling him any of this just in case something changes. I am slightly stressed that he is not on chemo right now but I have to trust that they know what they are doing. He should be able to start next week.

2 doses of steroids in, waiting to see if there is a reaction. Sometimes it is horrible, very OCD, very emotional other times he doesn't seem effected except he is hungry...and other times it all does not even start until the 5 days are over! It is a kind of hold your breath thing!

This weather is sucky...too cold. That is what's going on as of now. I had to call the teacher and postpone school until his headache is gone,...hate to do that!

Hi All. Today was spinal tap day, it went well. He has a little bit of a headache and is saying he feels nauseous but he ate some mashed potatoes and a half a sloppy joe. He lost about 3 lbs since last week but steroids start tonight...yuck His counts are not high enough to start the other chemo meds yet. We go back next week just for counts. If he is high enough he will start them then. Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. Ours was nice. Just hanging out, we planted flowers, had a cook out at my parents, rode my bike, had mini-thon, enjoyed the awesome weather,,,,what happened to today? It is COLD!
Here is a link to a little video that was made of mini-THON..Savannah is not in it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F4YCaUieos Thanks again to all that helped!
So I think that's it for now. Gotta hit the treadmill soon...trying to talk myself into it!

Mini-THON has ended. The total was over $27,000.00! The best yet. To thank Savannah for starting this and running it for 3 yrs every mini-THON from here on, that Red Lion has, $1,000.00 of the total will be donated in Savannah's name. Very cool.
Thank you SO VERY much to all of you that helped make her last Mini-THON such a huge success. We couldn't do it without you. Savannah also raised more money than any other student..over $2,ooo.oo. THANK YOU !!
Jed had a blast we were there when it started last might and didn't get home until almost midnight. His legs were so sore from running around that he had a hard time getting out of the car but he got up again this morning at 5am so he could go with me the see the total! Mom, Dad, Gram, Grace & Jim came to hang with Jed and Danny and me last night for awhile. Mom came back this morning for the total and to see Savannah get her honor and Adam stopped by this morning on his way to work.
So now Savannah is headed to Penn State York in the fall, they have been consistently behind all the other PSU satellite campus when it comes to raising $ for THON..well watch out York campus Savannah is coming your way!!!! The Four Diamonds Fund people are so happy she is spending a year at this campus they want her to whip them into shape!
It is so beautiful out I hate to go back to bed but I might need a nap. Jed is asleep again already!!!
Thank you once again to everyone....I can't say it enough.

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

Hi all. Jed is feeling better. He was up by 1pm. He just ate some pancakes and is now playing playstation with Danny. So thank goodness for that!
Ok now here's the latest drama, Savannah's mini-thon is Friday. She and her teacher advisors reserved the school last year. At the time the new gym was not finished so when they wrote the request they stated all the places in the school they needed and also wrote that they wanted all new construction that would be finished. many months later the girls basketball coach (moron) wanted the school for a tournament that same weekend, starting Friday (mini-thon). The request was rejected because minithon already had the school reserved. They then resubmitted the request with the wording specifically saying they wanted the NEW gym. When it went to the school board a lady in the ed center ( nancy orwig) made sure that the school board thought minithon only needed the old gym and the request was passed. This group was very angry last year when minithon took the weekend they wanted for the tournament and they fought and complained right till the end. Now this year they managed to cheat and lie themselves into getting what they wanted. Minithon will still happen but they are not allowed to use the "new" gym because you know a basketball tournament is so much more important than raising money for pediatric cancer. oh, did I mention the woman in the ed center, Nancy Orwig, is involved in the basketball tournament and her job is to write the requests to the school board, so she knew exactly how to word the request to get it passed. Karma is a bitch lady, you better watch out. The principal, a Mini-THON supporter, is unaware right now that all this crap is happening...he will tomorrow! This is such typical Red Lion bull s#$%. Sports coaches and old cronies cheat and lie and get what they want. There are people that work for this district that should have been fired years ago. Sexual harassment issues, sleeping with students, complete apathy towards teaching, incompetence, cheating...etc.
anyway, there will be MANY letters written to the school board after Friday. But if Red Lion lives up to it's typical way of doing business the letters will make no difference.
So that is the drama for today.
Jed does feel better...I guess that really is all that matters.
Love Jed and Kristin
Hey. Jed is still sleeping. He had a tough night. His stomach was very upset and the vincristine seemed to really inflame his pain. He just cried. I finally got some extra morphine in him. After that and some other good meds started working he calmed down a little. I gave him another double dose of morphine a couple of hours later and he fell asleep. I am not waking him! I told him his meds and drink were there about noon but I am not forcing him to get up. That would be pointless.
My neighbors are putting on a new porch and the old guy doing the work smokes continuously. I am such a horrible reformed smoker, the smell makes me nauseous. Now he has a helper, he isn't smoking but they are arguing...entertaining! I want to bring down my antique crib and set it up on the porch but...guess I'll wait till they leave. I was painting a wicker table for the front porch out on the deck. I dropped the can of pink paint on my blue deck...good thing the deck needs to be painted again anyway! Yeah I know, antique crib on the porch, pink table, blue deck, sounds like a nut house....it is!
I gues that's it. Hope Jed bounces back fast.

CONGRATS TO ALL THE NEW PSU ALUM!!!!! GREAT JOB!!

Breakfast with "The Mac" I bet she will wear out phones faster than Savannah! and that my friends is no small feat
Hi all. So the weekend is over..that was quick. Jed is doing pretty well. He went with Danny and I yesterday to home depot to get the flowers for the front porch. When we got home I went out front to plant and Jed went to the back with Danny to build a raised bed for strawberries. Jed didn't last too long though. I guess he was exhausted from flower shopping. He went upstairs and was asleep before 4pm! He did wake up later to watch TV, he went back to sleep about 1am. We all went to breakfast this morning. it was our postponed mother's day breakfast. Gram looks great, "the Mac" was there in all her glory...funny kid. She's built in entertainment. We went back to my parents and then Jim picked Jed up so they could go see star trex with Jeremy. Jed didn't feel so great this morning but he rallied enough to enjoy popcorn and the movie! Jeremy and Jim promised they would not go see the movie until he could go with them. They were all scheduled to go on mother's day but...well..crap happens. He said it was awesome. Other than that not much happening. I took a nap but I'm still tired....from nothing I guess. Jed is upstairs organizing...I don't know exactly what though! oh yipee, the dryer is beeping....more laundry to fold..laundry is never ending..
Back to clinic on Tuesday, he is scheduled for an all day chemo, I don't think his counts will be good enough...but you never know with him. We shall see. Tuesday is also the last day Jed will see Holly..she is leaving to have a baby...so happy for her and her fam so not thrilled about the upcoming trauma on Tuesdays from here on out or at least until August or Sept. She should be back before Jed gets his last chemo in the fall....God I hope she is back by then...I'll just take Jed over and drop him off at her house! I almost feel bad for the other nurses that are going to have to access him! Last time we were in clinic he wouldn't even let anyone else de-access him! Oh my. The nurse in the infusion (confusion) room worked there when Jed was sick the first time, she left for awhile and is back now. I don't think Jed remembers her and he got kinda weirded out when she tried to get anywhere near his port. He got himself so upset that he wouldn't even let Carol touch him and she always takes care of him in there. I am so looking forward to the fun. Poor Jed
That it for now,,,,sunny and warm this week right??? It better be!

Hey all. So glad the sun came out. Jed got up at 11 and we went to lunch with Hop. He ate a little bit, better than nothing. Jed and I then went to the grocery store. He feels better, even scootered outside for a while. He is resting now. Not much else new. Angles and Demons came out today, I want to go see it but I am too lazy! Ok, that's it. Tomorrow is work outside day, have to get the flowers up.

Do not talk politics with family that you know feel differently than you...especially when they are tired...:)
Love you
K
Hey, not much to update on. At 11am I asked Jed if he wanted to go to lunch, he said no. At 3pm I woke him up again. He came downstairs for not even 10 mins and is now back in bed. He is VERY tired. Other than that nothing is new. Just hanging out letting Jed rest. Yesterday he went outside with his scooter. He would scooter for 5 mins and then rest. After 3 tries he brought the scooter in. He said it was just too hard. We went to Rita's yesterday afternoon. He really wanted to go. He ate about 3 bites and said he was full. He did eat 2 pieces of Domino's pizza last night so that is better than nothing. Hopefully he will eat what's left of the pizza tonight.
I guess that's it.
Love Jed and Kristin

Tuesday, May 12, 2009

We are home........thank goodness. Jed feels good. He even took his scooter out to ride...he did for about 3 mins then he sat down to rest! I feel better now that the mail is sorted and picked up, the dead flowers in vases are gone, the dishes that I washed last Thurs. that no one removed from the washer ( they just added dirty) are washed, the food from last week is cleaned out of the fridge, the counter and table have been wiped of sticky and crumbs. Danny did do the laundry that was here and mopped the kitchen floor (losing battle). Now I just have to do the laundry I brought home and unpack....so hate that. Anyway, as you can tell by reading..nothing is new, we are just home! I haven't ventured into the bathroom yet...should I be scared?

A HUGE HEARTFELT THANKS to all those sending in donations to mini THON and to everyone at work that has given....it is so nice to know there are so many willing to help...THANK YOU!

Hey newest info: white count is up to .4, Dr Comito said when it gets to .5 we can talk about getting out, so that is good. Dr. Frieburg is on now and he said he would send us home at .5 with no reservations as long as there are no other conditions happening that might make us return quickly....like we ever can predict that! He was vague as to what those "conditions" could be. Jed was awake for about 2 hrs, in good spirits and ate some cereal. He has not had a fever in almost 48 hours but now he has bad stomach cramps and diarrhea. (he still has an order in for a personal pan pizza from pizza hut for tonight though!) I don't know how he is getting it yet because Dan is in his bike and it is starting to rain and I have the car. I am not leaving the hospital though to go get a pizza, I have this huge fear that I will get in a weck or something will happen that will keep me from getting back here or that as soon as I leave something would happen and he would need me...so it's gotta be someone else, they don't deliver either...so that's it for now. We are waiting to see what they can do about the stomach cramps...I know it is from the antibiotics...they always do this to him, I was just waiting for it to start...:(
keep you posted

Hey all, my mother's day gift was that Jed has had no fever since yesterday afternoon!!!!! and his white count is up to .2!!!!!!!! whoo hoo, everything is headed in the right direction. He is awake and alert more, coughing a lot which is killing his throat but morphine takes the edge off. So all in all things are looking up, maybe we won't be here for weeks like I first thought, just a week would be great.
ok, again Happy Mother's day to all the mother's

Enjoy the day

With an Internet connection in my room you will have update overload! He is much more "with it" since his 3rd bag of blood. He finally turned pink. No fever in a few hours but he is taking Tylenol. He has an inhaler now, thank goodness he doesn't have to do the other kind of breathing thing. He is watching TV, not up to playing his DSI or anything yet...maybe tomorrow. Mommo was here for a few hours came with Mcdonalds Jed ordered but then he couln't eat anything. He stayed awake just about the whole time she was here..I got to do laundry..whoohoo! Danny just left, he came when mommo was heading out. That's all for now..play by play action from the bat cave
Love J & K
Ok, newest info, they are adding the antibiotic zithromax, the are also going to give him GCFS to bring his counts up and start some breathing treatments ( which he hates). So that is the plan for now. I will keep you posted.
Love J & k
Hey. after 2 bags of blood in 24 hrs his counts are lower than when we started soooo more blood this morning. His temp is 102.7. Getting some more tylenol, waiting for cultures. We should see Dr. Comito ,she will be on top of it all. I don't know if they are going to add an antibiotic or change it or what but a little more aggressive action needs to be taken I think. They also mentioned another chest xray...it's becoming a daily thing. He is kinda sleeping right now, waiting for 8am because there are shows on he wants to watch.
That's all the news from the bat cave for now.

9:30 pm fever of 102.....at least he is asleep right now. Not me! it's still early. He has to get up and move to help clear his lungs but he is to tired, shakey and weak to walk anywhere, so will the pneumonia get worse because he is not walking? if it gets worse then he has to go on oxygen, and from there ...well we won't talk about that, it's the stuff of nightmares. he is much pinker since the 2nd bag of blood..wait, is that blood or fever pinkness??. This better be as bad as it's gets. Jed and i are on official burn out with this shit...him much more so than I of course. I hope it rains tomorrow..sorry..:)
love J & K
Trish,
Dr. Blackall walked in right as Jed started to cry, he had not heard what she said but he realized she made Jed upset. He told her you need to explain how this changes nothing that he is doing, everything is still the same. I know she felt like a total ass, Denise was sitting here too! we have had her before at night. She is kinda loud and seems nice but tries way to hard ....and on a strictly shallow point she always look sloppy, not like normal everybody kinda sloppy but it almost comes from the inside out...I can't explain it. She's not dirty or anything just sloppy. Anyway just your typical clueless resident.
miss you...do not come here...just send me notes!
love K
Well the resident just came in, chipper and bouncy..she says "good news, we know why you have a fever and are coughing, you have a lower left lobe pneumonia" and she clapped!!! and then..Jed burst into tears. Guess she won't give that delivery again ..dumb ass. Any way we calmed him down and he understands that really we just keep doing what we are doing adding 1 more antibiotic. So no fever for 48hrs and he is feeling ok we can leave. He is still spiking fevers though, antibiotics will kick in soo and take care of that. oh and the resident's way of fixing it was to make a joke "hey, at least it's not the swine flu"...how did she get though med school? dumb ass
that is the update for now. Danny is here, Jed sent him to KFC already. Ha hasn't eaten all day so we'll see.
another bag of blood is on it's way, just took some more Tylenol..that's good because he is starting to shake will chills..but is he is waiting for his KFC!!
I'll keep ya'll posted
Love J & K
Hey, he was spiking fevers all night. They gave him a bag of blood & antibiotics. Sleeping right now. Funny how it rains for freakin days and as we head up here last night the sun comes out, it looks beautiful out there now too....great. Well at atleast I seem to have an internet connection for now! Hours of playin bejewled before me!

Hi from the bat cave...room # 7264.... here's the story This morning Jed had to go to the Dr's with me. He usually complains..loudly but today he just went along, didn't talk much & asked for Tylenol before we went out. I felt his back and thought " he is hot" BUT that was as far as I went with the thought. I gave him Tylenol and he rallied. We went to help Hop babysit, we shopped for mother's day cards etc he was fine. We came home and he took a quick nap before his sister's birthday dinner at their dad's. When he came down to leave i said he looked weird...pink cheeks, white lips....I told him don't take you temp now, just take Tylenol and when you get back from your dad's we will deal with it....oohh bad mommy..or burnt out mommy... he of course ran right up and took his temp...102, huge meltdown. I told him to take the Tylenol, go to dinner and when he came back we would figure out what to do. He went, 1/2 an hour later Savannah calls home, I am walking with Grace so Savannah tells Danny that Jed's temp has gone to 104, Dan said bring him home..she said well I have to talk to mom first.....OK. she calls me, I tell her bring him home....he is screaming in the back round I will not go to the hospital and when I told him he had to come home he said I will not! Anyway Steve brought him home and by that time the Dr had ordered a direct admit...his white count is only .4. I think I mentioned that the other day. SOOO here we are, he is finally accessed.....HUGE drama..poor guy. They just started an antibiotic and he already ordered his morphine! his fever right now is 100. He just took more Tylenol. I will keep you all posted. The fact that I was more than willing to postpone the hospital trip even with a blatant fever def says we are numbed to the dangers! hope the cultures grow nothing and the fever leaves...home by Saturday...I won't get to excited..Sunday maybe??

Happy Birthday to my best friend. 19 years, who was the dumb ass that said it gets easier? I miss you just as much today as I did the day you left.

Hey all. We went to clinic at 7am and we were home by 1pm!!! His white count went from 1.3 to .4 in a week sooooo no all day chemo. I gave him a half dose of ativan this morning to keep him from getting all worked up when we got there, don't think I will do that again. He was very chatty when we got there and fell asleep quickly when he got into his chair. After we were given the word that he was not getting cytoxin, the drug that takes a while, we woke him up to give him the one drug he WAS getting today. He woke up crying. When the nurse in the infusion room was ready to deaccess him he started to freak out...he wanted Holly. He wouldn't even let Carol do it and she does it every week! We got Holly and by then he was coughing and gagging. That is his usual drama thing and most of the time he is fine but of course not this time!!!! He threw up the milk he had been drinking all morning. Milk puke is the one thing that really gets me....horrible. Anyway we got all cleaned up and now we are home. He slept for awhile and is now awake. Savannah just opened her laptop and seems very excited.
Jed is kinda OCD today and has only stopped talking when he was sleeping. He was getting ready this morning & it took him forever, he had to lay all his video game stuff out and get it organized before he could get dressed. When we got to clinic today I dropped him at the door and when he didn't get right out I said "Jed what are you waiting for"..he was picking up every little piece of garbage off the floor. I told him to please do it later but he said it HAD to be done right then. he is down here now "helping" Savannah with her laptop...she is bitching and he can't shut up. He is also explaining everything that is happening on the TV...aaaahhhhh, deep breath.
It's Dominos and Biggest loser night..what a combo. Onto the treadmill after pizza and before BL.
I want Savannah's new laptop.....it's really cool...very pricey, I'll keep mine. Kyle is here now,,,checking out the new hardware.
So I guess that's all for now.

Danny is SOOO happy it is my Birthday!!

I only drank a few..really

Jed and D at the truck convoy!
So of course as I sit here eating leftovers from yesterday's pasta birthday feast it has stopped raining. 1st time all day....now that we are home and inside! It was fun anyway even with the wet coldness. There were more than 160 trucks this year. Jed's driver came in 7th place for fundraising. I didn't ride along. I always get kinda sick riding in that truck, and it gave me time to talk to our driver's ex-wife (she is a volunteer for Make-A-Wish). Yes, this is the driver that got married (renewed vows) over the summer, they are now divorced. Just another reason I don't plan to get married! It is a little awkward for us because we like them both. Travis has always been wonderful to us and Cindy has too. Sooo, I think the only really awkward thing was the new girlfriend was there, she rode in the truck. hhmmm. Anyway we all had fun. They boys blew the horn until even they were tired of hearing it! And I hung out with the volunteers under the pavilion drinking coffee and trying to not focus on the fact that my feet were soaked and cold. Jed and I are both exhausted, I think the cold and wet wears us out. But hey, I didn't have to water my veggies today! I need to go this week and get all the flowers for my front porch and topsoil for the flower beds around the house. I also really need to paint the deck again, all the paint from last year peeled up, must have been my wonderful prep work.
Tomorrow Fred (Savannah) turns 18..weird. It really is hard to wrap my head around that. Jed gave her a really cool Vera Bradley laptop case. She will get the actual laptop closer to graduation! Her Macbook pro..I want one but I have to pay for hers first! Gram B gave Savannah her pearls...made her cry.
I think that's all for now. Jed is feeling pretty good. kinda tired and stiff from today but all in all good.
Welp I think I am going to take a nap.
Love Jed and Kristin
Hey all. Raining again....yuck. Yesterday wasn't too bad though. I got the greenbeans, cucs and snap peas planted after we went out to breakfast. Last night we had our birthday dinner at my parents ( Savannah and I ). It was a pasta feast! Gracey and Jim were there and Adam, Tiersa and the Mac. Kyle came and A, it was nice and I am still full but I did have cake for breakfast! Today we are heading to Gettysburg for the Make-A-Wish truck convoy. HAve to go pick up DJ soon. Danny and I went out Friday night to listen to music, Alecia and her BF were to meet us but evidentlythey had a little "misunderstanding" and never showed...oh well Danny and I always have fun together anyway. That's it for now I will put some pics up later, have to go wake up Jed. I am trying to talk Danny into staying home, he is sick, sounds like what my dad had for 3 months...yuck.
Lovely weather
